Yakubu-DogaraBENIN—THE member representing Ovia federal constituency of Edo State in the House of Representatives, Miss Omosede Igbinedion, has charged the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, to urgently reconcile members to enable the House focus on laws that will better the lives of Nigerians.
Describing the emergence of the Speaker as the work of God, Igbinedion described Dogara as humble and a man who has the legislative experience that will help to unite the House soon.
She said: “The Speaker is a humble man and has the fear of God in him. The campaign leading to his election was intense but it never polarised the House. In parliaments all over the world, there is intense lobbying for leadership positions before a new session begins and Nigeria is no exception.
The burden now falls on the Speaker to bring different interest groups into one fold and impress it on all members that we have a common purpose of serving Nigerians.”
Speaking on her legislative priorities at the 8th Assembly, she said she intends to introduce and support legislation that supports and enhance employment generation, protection and promotion of human rights and the education of the less privileged, noting that an educated society is always easy to govern.
