Suspected members of Boko Haram in a convoy of Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles laden with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), rocket grenades and anti-aircraft guns attacked Malari village of Maiduguri metropolis of Borno state; and killed 15 resident, wounding of 19 others in Bulunkutu Saleke, Gomari and Ajilari areas in the early hours of Saturday.
The killings, according to Ibrahim Yakubu of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), were caused by insurgents’ sporadic gunshots, explosions and shelling on three main areas of the metropolis that commenced from 12 to 3:00am Saturday.
“We were terrified and shocked on how these areas were targeted by Boko Haram in killing innocent people last night. Out of the killed
ones, five are children, including two women who were sleeping in the open because of heat in their houses,” said Yakubu on however the residents were killed.
He said the insurgents burst into Malari through the northeast flank of Sambisa forest on dirt road, before crossing River Ngadabul to launch their attacks on the affected communities.
“The militants could not enter Maiduguri metropolis last night, because of the dug trenches that make their vehicles to cross and cause havoc to both lives and property in the targeted three areas,” said the vigilante youth.
