To improve the lot of Lagosians with various forms of disabilities, the Lagos State Government is collaborating with private manufacturing companies to provide assistive aids at subsidised rate.
Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola on Youths and Special Development, Dr. Enitan Badru, disclosed this at the 2014 International Day for People with Disabilities in Lagos.
At the event organised by the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, LASODA, with the theme “Sustaining Development: The Promise of Technology”, Badru said technology could be used to help make life more meaningful and comfortable for people with disabilities.
“With assistive technology devices, people with disabilities are capable of handling a wider range of activities independently and integrate fully into the society. “The state government recognises that this can help to achieve an inclusive society where people with disabilities can be comfortable and live meaningful lives,“ he said. Chairman, LASODA, Mrs Tolu Animashaun, who urged them to register with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, LASSRA, for proper data collation explained that such registration would enable the state government to formulate policies and organise programmes that would benefit those with disabilities.
