Mr. Ade Ipaye, the Lagos Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice has requested the assistance of security operatives to unravel the attempted assassination claim made by Lagos lawyer, Mr. Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa.
In a letter dated April 15, 2014, to the State Commissioner of Police, Ipaye described the assassination threat by the lawyer as uncalled for and “preposterous.”
The Attorney-General admitted that the state is in court with Adegboruwa, but wondered why they will contemplate killing him.
He said the state government believe in the security of every citizen living in the state, stating, “we wonder while a legal practitioner of Mr. Adegboruwa’s standing would level such a grievous and unsubstantiated allegation against the Lagos State Government without any factual or empirical investigation being conducted, and without providing a shred of evidence in support of his claim.”
Adegboruwa raised alarm on Monday, claiming that his life is under threat by unknown people who are attempting to kill him probably over his position on toll taking at the Ikoyi-Lekki link bridge by the agents of the government.
He asked Nigerians to hold the state government and its agents responsible if anything untoward happen to him.
Ipaye who asked the police boss to expedite action on the investigation also urged him to make public his findings on the issue.
“It is a fact that Mr. Adegboruwa is a litigant in a case involving the State Government and which I am handling personally. The case is currently pending before the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court.
“The State Government, as a consistent champion of rule of law and good governance, considers it preposterous that a legal practitioner of Mr. Adegboruwa’s standing would level such a grievous and unsubstantiated allegation against the Lagos State Government without any factual or empirical investigation being conducted, and without providing a shred of evidence in support of his claim”, Ipaye added.
He said further, “Having regard to the seriousness of Mr. Adegboruwa’s allegation, I hereby respectfully request your offices to please investigate the allegation for the purpose of establishing veracity of same and apprehending of the alleged assailants”.
A copy of his letter was sent to the Director of the State Security Service and the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for their necessary actions.
