LAGOS— A trial judge of Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, Tuesday, in a short ruling, held that “it is a legal impossibility to commit Access Bank to prison, because it is an artificial person.”
Justice Okon Abang also refused the oral application by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, counsel to Managing Director, Capital Oil and Gas, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, seeking an order compelling attendance of directors of Access Bank to court over contempt.
Olanipekun, had made the application seeking an order for the directors of the bank to give explanations for flouting the orders of the court.
He argued that the court order made on January 28, which directed Access bank to discontinue its processes before a London court within 48 hours, had been disregarded by the defendants.
