AWKA—TWO members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, who allegedly absconded on their way to prison custody, were yesterday denied bail at an Onitsha Magistrate Court.
The suspects, whose names were given as Friday Nwafor and Emeka Okorie, fled on their way from court, even with six police men guarding them. They were being charged for robbery. .
The incident came as the regional administrator of MASSOB for division four in Onitsha, Mr. Arinze Igbani, who had been in hospital for a long time, but appeared in court yesterday, was arrested by the police.
Addressing reporters in Onitsha , the director of information of MASSOB, Mr. Uchenna Madu, demanded immediate release of four of their members who were arrested along with Igbani.
He said: ‘’Up till now, our members have not been seen, The police should produce the other two who they claimed ran away and also release Arinze and others on medical grounds.
“How can six police officers who were armed and with their vehicle, allow suspects to run away? It is an unbelievable story. As a matter of fact, the same Arinze sued the police last week claiming damages at Otuocha High Court in Anambra East Local government Area and now they have arrested him to undermine court process.”
