Nigerian boxer, Isaac Ekpo has won the West African Boxing Union Super Middle weight crown. Ekpo achieved the feat after defeating Ghana’s John Amosu via an 11th round knockout in Ghana.
Speaking on the fight, Ekpo said the victory over the dreaded Ghanian pugilist was a dream come true. “He had boasted before the fight that he was going to stop me.
They bought champagne which they intended to use at a post victory party.
But I listened to my manager who told me how to tackle him. “I joked with him in the early rounds, yet I remained conscious because in boxing, one blow can end a fight. At a point, I said enough of the jokes and I knocked him out in the 11th round.
I made him kiss my canvass,” the Cross River born pugilist said. Ekpo who is based in Ghana is currently in Nigeria to prepare for a WBO elimination bout against Hany Atiyo of Egypt in December.
Explaining about his opponent for the December 2 fight in Nigeria, Ekpo who was in Nigeria’s team to the 2004 Olympics said, “Atiyo was a former lightweight champion who decided to step down the ladder to fight in the middleweight class.
I am training and waiting for him. When he comes he is going to meet an Olympian and I won’t disappoint.”
