THE President General of Isoko Development Union, I.D.U, Chief Gregory Akpojene, who was kidnapped on the 24th August 2012, has been released by his abductors.
Speaking to newsmen at Otor-Igho, Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State moments after his release, Chief Akpojene decried that he was abducted at about 9.30pm on the fateful day to unknown destination.
He said; “although my incarceration was unfortunate and embarrassing, I used the occasion to talk to my captors on the need for them to live a more purposeful life and the reason for the abject poverty in Africa.
“I concluded by telling them (my captors) that poverty in Nigeria is as result of laziness and lack of saving habit at all levels of government and citizenry,” appealing to Nigerian youths to stop all acts of criminality in the interest of growing the economy of the country.
Continuing, he said; “in reaction, my captors said they were driven into the sorrowful business by the misrule of the country’s leaders.”
They however promised to abandon the “unwarranted business as soon as the government of the country shows seriousness on the provision of job opportunities for the masses in the country.”
Speaking further, Akpogene insisted that “only a corrupt free and Agro based economy can save Nigeria instead of an oil driven economy.”
To this end, he called on all levels of government to take a practical step towards the empowerment of the people at the grassroots, particularly the youths through genuine co-operative societies.
