Technical Director of Athletics Federation of Nigeria Navy Captain Omatseye Nesiama has told Nigerians not to lose hope after the country’s biggest medal prospect in the London Olympics, Blessing Okagbare, failed to live up to her pre-games billing.
”Okagbare did a great job getting to the final of 100m here and what happened to her (injury) could have happened to anybody,” Nesiama said Sunday morning. “We are proud of her and we are determined to encourage her,” he said.
Nesiama said that Okagbare will still compete in the Long Jump event where she won bronze four years ago in Beining.
”Blessing still has Long Jump to do. “she may go there and make up. It is possible. We just need to support her. We are still hopeful that we will not go empty handed. There are the relays. We have two teams in the relays – 4x100m and 4x400m for women. We have not given up hope.”
