Governor Peter Obi of Anambra has directed local governments in the state to maintain and protect the land recovered from squatters.
Obi gave the directive on Sunday while inspecting the Onitsha-Enugu Federal Highway undergoing reconstruction and expansion.
He also charged local government councils to ensure that the entry and exit points of the Onitsha Bridge remained clean always.
The governor said his administration would ensure that the recovered areas were not encroached upon again.
“All measures humanly possible to make the squatters not to return will be pursued with vigour,’’ he said, stressing that the land recovery effort would also be extended to cover Onitsha North, Onitsha South and Ogbaru areas.
Obi added that the recovered areas would be beautified with flowers and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the new 10-lane Onitsha-Enugu Federal highway. (NAN)
