BY NDAHI MARAMA, MAIDUGURI- A failed suicide attempt killed the bomber along side a civilian, while two others including a soldier were seriously injured when the lone suicide bomber on a tricycle (KEKE NAPEP) missed target on a JTF patrol vehicle and in the process, rammed into a moving Mercedes Benz Car detonating the Improvised Explosive Device.
The incident which took place at about 10am wednesday in Customs Area of Maiduguri Metropolis has caused pandemonium among residents who scampered for safety.
It would be recalled that some couple of months ago, the people of Maiduguri, the Borno state Capital had experienced relative calm from bomb blasts, a situation that many thought that the issue of bomb explosion in the city has became things of the past.
Confirming the incident in a press statement from the JTF Spokesman, Leutanant Colonel Sagir Musa said “at about 10:00hours, a lone suicide bomber in a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) who targeted one of our Patrol vehicle around Customs area failed and hit a moving Mercedece Benz”.
Sagir said the explosion killed the bomber and a civilian instantly while three others, two civilians a soldier, were injured .
The bodies of dead and the 3 injured were taken to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for treatment.
According to the JTF Spokesman, the Task Force has since cordoned off, swept the affected area and routine activities are going on unhindered.
Similarly Sagir added that, two suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists who stormed the Monday Market with the intention of killing innocent citizens were encountered and killed by troops of the JTF and additionally, two AK 47 rifles and 18 rounds of ammunition were recovered as a result of the incident which happened at about 11:00 am same day.
