OSHIOMHOLE Campaign Organisation, OCO, has condemned alleged arm twisting tactics of the Peoples Democratic, PDP, against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over whether or not to use corps members for the July 14 gubernatorial election, saying such method imposes the role of INEC on PDP.
The Director of Media and Publicity of OCO, Prince Kassim Afegbua, in a statement claimed that the PDP was deliberately heating up the polity to attract unmerited attention to itself, noting that the PDP could not assume the responsibilities and functions of INEC.
It said the PDP could not be “dictating to INEC what it desires before, during and after elections. It cannot possibly assume the role of INEC because the provisions of the law are very clear. When it was convenient for them, they supported the use of corps members in Kogi, Adamawa and Kebbi states elections.”
According to the statement “We find it very ludicrous that the PDP is crying wolf where there is none simply because they realise that their nefarious plans are not yielding fruits. We have seen the nadir of their vaunted thoughts; we have also heard their no-message campaign from local and national officers of the Party.
Having realised that Oshiomhole is already coasting home to victory by virtue of the people’s verdict, the PDP has suddenly become avuncular and livid with anger for no just reason”.
Why must the PDP be afraid of using Corps members when that has been the tradition all over the country in INEC,s history of election conduct? Why are they demanding for a shift of the electoral goal post mid- way into the game when all is set for the final demolition of the PDP at the polls? I think, talking very seriously, somebody must call them to order.”
