Athletics Federation of Nigeria president, Solomon Ogba is yet to come to terms with Nigeria surrendering the 100m gold at the African Championships, which comes to an end on Sunday.
Ogba sat dumbfounded as Blessing Okagbare and Obinna Metu failed to make the desired impact in the sprints. He had expected so much from the athletes, having gone out his way to put them in one of the best hotels in Benin Republic.
“It was with the hope that we will not have any complaints that we paid their allowances up front. We did everything to make sure that they are focused in giving us good result,” Ogba remarked.
He was however, hopeful that the athletes will get back into competition mood before the Olympics starting in July.
“We cannot afford not to perform. We know Nigerians are relying on us to do well since our football teams are not there. But if we are able to get to finals that will be very good for us,”he said.
