Nigerian athletes are dope free, says AFN

Athletics Federation of Nigeria doping committee chairman, Dr. Ken Anugwueje disclosed that all the Nigerian athletes competing at the African Championships have been put through a stringent dope test.

According to him these tests were carried out on athletes who were camped in Port Harcourt and also all those others who participated at the All Nigeria/Cross Championships in Calabar.

“We don’t expect anyone of our athletes to test positive here in Port Novo or at the London 2012 Olympics. What we have right now is a very clean team. And I would be very surprised if we have any positive case and even if we do, it will be from those we have not tested.

“We were very stringent with our testing. There were times we even had to conduct search on the bags of the athletes to ensure no one was taking drugs we are not aware of,” said Dr. Anugwueje

He added that the AFN is determined to end the cycle of Nigerian athletes testing positive at international events.
