Nigeria to host Africa youth championships

Confederation of African Athletics has awarded Nigeria the hosting right of the maiden African youth championships billed for 2013.

Consequently, Athletics Federation of Nigeria officials said that they will be hosting a secondary schools meet before the end of the year to select a strong Nigerian team that will represent the country.

“Besides we are pursuing an aggressive grass-roots development programme. This is with the hope of having a strong team of future athletes for the country,” said AFN vice president, Jide Josiah.

“We would be fielding basically athletes who are still in secondary school. There will be a competition before the end of the year, those who are champions will be selected and trained ahead of the championships,”
