Patients stranded as FMC nurses continue strike in Ogun

ABEOKUTA — Four days into the strike  embarked on by nurses at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Abeokuta, activities have remained grounded in spite of the presence of doctors at the tertiary health facility.

According to NAN reports, doctors and nurses in the health facility on Monday withdrew their services following the inability of the management to resolve the lingering feud between the two critical set of professionals in the institution.

It was gathered that the two parties had been at  loggerheads following  an altercation involving a young  medical doctor  and an  elderly female nurse.

Although the incident was said to have been reported to the institution’s management, the nurses were said to be displeased with the handling of the dispute, forcing them to withdraw their services.

Yesterday, the doctors, who had returned to work,  were sighted at their desks although none of the nurses turned up for duty.

The development paralysed activities in the ever-busy facility as patients sought treatment elsewhere.

Although the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr Dapo Sotiloye, was unavailable for comments, his spokesman, Mr Segun Orisajo, said efforts were under way to resolve the matter.
