FAAN reiterates commitment to demolish illegal structures

Ikeja – The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Tuesday reiterated its determination to demolish illegal structures at the cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Mr Akin Olukunle, the General Manager of FAAN, said  in Lagos that the demolition was part of the “remodelling” taking place at airports across the country.

FAAN management, had in February, served quit notice to cargo operators at the international cargo terminal of the airport.

Olukunle said that the illegal cargo operators would be affected by the demolition, stressing that that “nobody can stop the government when it is ready to carry out the demolition”.

He said that the government had not extended the deadline for the ejection and and that the cargo operators must comply with the directive.

“The transformation agenda will be implemented and nobody can stop it.

“The genuine operators will support what we are doing, while the fake ones will get out.

“The regional manager met with the operators and when the time comes, we shall send them out,’’ he said.

Some cargo operators have vowed not to vacate the terminal.

Some of them told NAN that their business at the terminal was their only source of livelihood and had nowhere to go. (NAN)
