CALABAR—THE Nigerian Customs Service has warned those in the habit of importing contraband goods to desist from such act, especially in the Cross River/Akwa Ibom state command, as measures had been put in place to deal with those caught contravening the law.

The warning came on the heels of seizure of over 13 trucks of frozen chicken within the Cross River and Akwa Ibom States area command.

Comptroller of Nigerian Customs for the Free Port Zone, Cross River and Akwa-Ibom States command, Alhaji Hassan Mundu, who dropped the hint at the destruction of some of the frozen chicken in Calabar, said that the seized products were worth over N200 million.

Alhaji Mundu, who conducted newsmen  round the dump site at Lemna Road, Ikot Effanga, Calabar, said a combined team of National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC; State Security Services, officials of the Cross River State Ministry of Health and Environment, and representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, carried out the operation that led to the seizure of the products in line with their mandate.

He said since March last year, more than 13 trucks of poultry products had been impounded by his command and attributed the delay in destroying the products to rigorous investigations carried out by his Command.
