NDDC moves against erring contractors

By FESTUS AHON

UGHELLI – DELTA State Commissioner on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Chief Solomon Ogba, yesterday, threatened to handover erring contractors to the commission to security agencies for prosecution.

He said the commission would no longer tolerate cases of abandoned projects after collection of mobilisation fees.

Ogba, who stated this during a meeting with contractors and their consultants, said contractors should ensure that they complete projects awarded to them according to specification and on schedule.

He frowned at situations where some contractors would collect government money and thereafter, abandon such projects, lamenting that such contractors were not being fair to their people.

According to him, people from communities where such government projects were sited would continue to wallow in underdevelopment and deprivation, adding that the new NDDC Board was determined to correct the wrongs of the past.

Noting that the new board would not allow anybody to frustrate its effort and the good intentions of government, he cited a particular project with a contract sum of N1.9 billion, where after collecting mobilisation of N1.6 billion, the contractor abandoned it.
