Suspected leader of a notorious robbery gang met his death on Christmas day after members of his gang engaged operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in a gun battle in Ajah area of Lagos.

The deceased, identified as Festus Aghatise, an ex-convict, who finished a jail term in September, was reportedly at the verge of snatching a Toyota Corolla car, with members of his gang strategically positioned to ward off intruders, when the operatives swooped on them.

Members of the gang, who reportedly bowed to the superior fire power of the squad, fled the scene in their operational vehicle, abandoning their leader who was shot in the process.
