Confessions of Oshiomhole: Matters arising

Gov Adams Oshiomhole

True confessions of the self styled Comrade Governor of Edo State, Mr Adams Aliu Oshiomhole recently that the demised President, Umaru Musa Yat’Adua calls for a lot of questioning and reasoning. Flat statements like these about a late president of a country like ours should not be treated with kid gloves because the governor had made it a perpetual habit of deriding the dead.

He did it to Late Stella Obasanjo and went scot free and now it is the turn of Late Yar’Adua to receive his vituperations. But this time, he went beyond the hilt to deliver his message. He had recently told the world that he was offered over N2billion to jettison his now highly questionable mandate. It must have been cash induced as he never won the April 14 2007 guber polls given to him on a platter of Naira.

Before now the Comrade Governor was fond of telling his political acolytes how he used to go to Aso Rock to see Yar’Adua and he spoke fluent Hausa to him while the national leader would speak Queen’s English. He had boasted that who will the Late President listen to— the man that speaks English or the one that speaks his mother tongue?

And true to his words, the judgement was delivered by Yar’Adua’s cousin in his favour of Oshiomhole who while with friends of like minds also allegedly boasted before the verdict that the Late Yar’Adua bankrolled him to the tune of over

N400million to help him prosecute his legal tussle and we all know the results Oshiomhole won the case and the rightful owner now becomes the culprit.

Senator Oserheimen Osunbor, the victim of the whole saga, was painted with all manner of colours, given names that his father never named him. Yet, the man even went ahead to congratulate him. What ensued later was a plethora of sponsored damaging stories against the person of Osunbor.

Osunbor took all calmly. Being a professional lawyer, he remained calm and watched from the sidelines but today with this recent outburst of the comrade Governor, Osunbor is vindicated and will go into the hall of fame as one of the most refined African politicians.

He retired into active politics fighting to ensure that the party that he had given his best remains in focus at both the state and regional levels.

The comrade should be asked these basic questions: who and who offered him money to dump his ambition of becoming Governor? He should be bold enough to name names, places and the manner they had wanted to pay him the money.

He should tell Nigerians how the Late President sponsored his ambition of becoming Governor at the detriment of his party , the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. How the president could be involved in anti-party activities, all in a bid please him, if there was no deal?

He should be ready to tell us the deal he had with him to mortgage all Nigerian workers by ensuring that throughout the Late President’s reign, there will be no industrial disharmony for five years.

He is a fierce talker. He should not use words to cover the truth. He should name those who witnessed when the man gave him both moral and financial support.

Nigerians should be able to read in between the line whether he is fabricating all these stories or they are deliberately designed to feed the press with stories that would make headlines. Oshiomhole should also be willing to name his godfathers who linked him with the President and how both the then incumbent governor helped to ensure he won the election that he never won.

How all state machineries were deployed for his own use by a sitting PDP government in Edo state and how over 30 vehicles marked in his party name that was unknown in the state were kept in the incumbent’s house in G.R.A. He is been talking without a break for some time now but this is no time for Osunbor to remain silent if a sitting PDP President sponsored him.

His sponsorship by the then state governor could be reasoned out but by Yar’Adua. Nigerians would want to know what makes the Comrade Governor so unique that Yar’Adua would destroy his own party man for a unionist governor.
