Lagos—Lagos State Government has said it planned to build traffic safety laboratories across primary and secondary schools in the state aimed at enhancing knowledge of pupils on traffic rules and regulations.

Senior Special Assistant SSA to the Governor on Transportation Education, Dr. Mariam Masha, who disclosed this at the final of the 2011 Road Users’ Friendly Game at the State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, Lagos, said the measure would also increase traffic safety awareness among pupils.
Masha explained that the laboratory would also “help to reduce the work- load of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, in apprehending violators of traffic laws as the pupils would be empowered with the right traffic rules and regulations.”
Although, the SSA failed to mention the number of traffic safety laboratory to be constructed but added “it would also serve as a means for the pupils who will be the future road users to get acquainted with how to manage traffic in the state.”
The SSA stated that in order to make the pupils be more acquainted with traffic management, the state government designed the annual Road Users’ Friendly game to test the knowledge of the pupils on traffic rules and regulation and management.
On how the finalists emerged, Masha said that 12 finalists were drawn from Primary and Secondary Schools in Lagos State.
