Minna – Workers in Niger State have warned the state government to implement the N18,000 Minimum Wage Act immediately or witness industrial action.

State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Mr. Yahaya Ndako gave the warning while answering questions from journalists in Minna  as government officials failed to attend a scheduled meeting with labour to iron out the grey  areas on the issue yesterday.

Ndako said the failure of the government team to attend  the  meeting at the office of Head of Service was pointer that government was deliberately foot-dragging on the matter.

He frowned at the non-challant attitude of the committee set up by the government on the implementation of the new minimum wage.

The NLC chairman who was supported by the state chapter Chairman of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Yunusa Tenimu, debunked insinuation that labour had been compromised by the government on the new minimum wage,

He said the union had been working silently with government towards the implementation of the new salary wages.

However, the Head of Service, Alhaji Ahmed Matane said contrary to the belief of the labour leaders, the committee set up on the implementation of the new wage headed by him had submitted its report to the governor which is being studied before final implementation.
