NCC, Mainone, google for Broadband summit

Indications has emerged that major stakeholders in the Nigeria broadband resources have sealed a deal with the umbrella body of the industry association, ATCON, to fashion out means of expanding the penetration and fine tuning the investment strategies.

According to ATCON, Google, MainOne and top government agencies such as the Nigerian Communications Commission and the Universal Service Provision Fund, USPF, will lead many stakeholders to field a Broadband Investment Summit late this month.

ATCON said it is championing to refocus the industry from a perspective which reveled at high figure of mobile lines to one which calls for the elevation of telecommunications to an empowering tool for all Nigerian citizens.

The Association said it is concerned that despite the large number of telephone lines recorded, the average Nigerian is yet to fully utilize the benefits that ICT offers today.

This lag calls for the industry to alter its orientation from an emphasis on ‘connected lines’ to one of the ‘number of users’ of telecommunication services.
