Nigeria’s Osita Ofor a.k.a. De Ultimate Commander will on Friday June 17, in Lagos stake his Universal Promotional Wrestling Federation World Heavyweight championship belt against American matsman, Batista in a winner takes all encounter.
The night has been tagged ‘the gathering of champions.’
The fight which is billed for Expo Centre, Eko Hotel and Suite, Victoria Island will also feature numerous international and local wrestlers.
Speaking at a pre-fight media conference in Lagos Tuesday, De Ultimate Commander said the fight was brought to Nigeria because he wanted to re-write history as far as the heavyweight belt was concerned.
Said he, “No wrestler has been able to keep this belt for up to six months. Some have even lost it in their first defence fight. Shelton Benjamin won it in November and I took it from him in December. I want to keep it for as long as I can. I know I can beat Batista anywhere in the world but I decided to bring the fight home in order to get enough support from my countrymen and women. I want to win this fight in front of my home fans; to give them hope and joy.”
The least an average Nigerian will pay to watch the fights is N5,000 for the popular side. VIP N30,000 while each corporate table costs N500,000.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Tee Mac, a popular musician said the Local Organising Committee took into consideration the cost of bringing the numerous wrestlers, security and other logistics.
The train moves to Central District Abuja, June 22 where a reverse fixture will be arranged at Thisday Dome.
