Police arrest 4 suspected kidnappers, rescue 2 victims

WARRI— POLICE in Delta State, have arrested four suspected kidnappers at Akwukwu-Igbo, headquarters of Oshimili North Local Government Area as well as in Warri and also rescued a retired staff of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC and a young girl abducted by the suspects.

A suspected kidnapper was also arrested by the police in Oleh, Delta  State at a point where he went to pick up the N2.5million ransom demanded by his gang, which abducted a six-year-old boy,  Emmanuel Omobhude.

The victim  was kidnapped on May 27,  and taken to a hideout at Oleh, from where the abductors called the family and demanded ransom. A team of policemen stormed Oleh with the mother of the victim, Mrs Magarette Omobhude, where one of the suspects was  arrested, as he came to pick the ransom. He later led police to the gang’s hideout on 82 IDC Road, Oleh.

Meanwhile, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a dismissed soldier was  arrested over a case of abduction.  The dismissed soldier, who was a Private in the Nigerian Army was allegedly part of a gang of kidnappers that abducted a lady in Port Harcourt, who was later rescued by Police in the state.

In Delta State, Vanguard gathered that the first set of kidnappers kidnapped a girl, identified as Igbene Roli in Asaba on June 15, at about 9.50 pm and took her to their hideout in Akwukwu-Igbo.

But acting on a tip off, policemen trailed them to the community where the girl was rescued unhurt and two suspects arrested.

The state Police spokesperson, Mr. Charles Muka, told Vanguard, “their confession led to the arrest of Onyeka Oteri and recovery of a Golf car with registration number, DU 515 EKY and one cut to size locally made double barrel gun with two live cartridges.”
