Sokoto — The Comptroller of Customs in-charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara Area Command, Alhaji Abdulkarim Hussaini, has said that the service would be proactive in its surveillance across Nigeria’s borders in its efforts to ensure hitch-free elections during the April polls.
In a chat with Vanguard in his office in Sokoto, the Comptroller said that all Customs Commands across the country had been directed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Inde Dikko, to conduct proper physical examination on all cargos coming through borders.
This, according to Hussaini, “is in order to forestall illegal importation of dangerous weapons that may hinder hitch-free elections.
“Our men have been briefed by CGC to be vigilant in monitoring vehicles and even people across the borders in order to forestall smuggling of dangerous weapons into the country before and during April polls.”
He further disclosed that men and officers of the Service in the Area Command have been briefed to work with the police for the purpose of inspection and supervision during the exercise.”
“We are also going to work in collaboration with other security agencies in our Area to complement the security efforts on election days,” Hussaini said.
