Governor Adams Oshiomhole has assured members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) that his government will only formulate worker-friendly policies.
Comrade Oshiomhole stated this during the visit of the Union’s National President, Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasim and his executive to Government House Benin city.
According to the governor “a union should be sensitive to its political environment. As governor of Edo state myself being a worker and a steward of the NLC I can only have one identity. I regard myself always as a labour brought up. So I cannot formulate or execute policies that are designed to oppress any affiliate of the Nigerian Labour Congress. I can assure you that we shall look at all that you said and review some of the actions we have taken.”
“We will sit with your people and see how we will encourage your union to find it’s feet in Edo state. We know that in many parts of the state your union is doing very well. Your leadership is behaving responsibly and there is no reason why we should not collaborate with you. As I said in some places, if you don’t support Oshiomhole’s government, which government will you support because this government is one you can call your own”.
The governor remarked that his foray into politics is to make a statement that union leaders are not only good at criticizing but if given the opportunity will do well.”
