At least two people have been lynched in Plateau State for being allegedly responsible for the disappearance of the genitals of other citizens in different parts of the state.
A man was stoned to death in Mikang Local Government Area while two others were set ablaze in Shendam Local Government Area of the state over the allegations.
One of them, identified as Sabastine Dio, later died at the hospital while the whereabouts of the second victim, identified as Kingsley, remains unknown.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Abdulrahman Akano, who disclosed this to journalists, however, expressed worry over the development, noting that similar alarms raised in other parts of the state had been found to be false.
Medical check
According to him, one David Manchung of Trade Centre Kuru, near Jos who reported that he felt his genital disappear after a handshake, was later confirmed alright at the hospital.
Cases of missing organs have become rampant in Plateau State causing widespread fears among residents of the state.
The situation, which is currently a threat to the fragile peace in the state, has forced Governor Jonah Jang to convene a security council meeting to check the situation.
No ‘jungle justice’, Police warn
Mr. Akano, however, warned that the Police would not allow “jungle justice” to prevail in the state.
Akano said that three groups were arrested over the incident last week and warned the public against taking the law into their hands.
He said: “There have been series of reported cases of missing genitals. The disappearance of male organs is a hoax and people have been maimed and killed because of that.
“Nobody has been able to prove that you can shake hands with somebody and lose your penis.”
Akano said that some of those purported to have lost their genitals had been taken to hospital where their manhood was found intact after medical examinations.
The Commissioner warned that those arrested for mob actions would be charged to court for murder.
He said: “It has been medically proven that some who claimed to have lost their sexual organs had medical problems like diabetes, in any event, a man’s genital will usually shrink on a normal day”.
Akano warned further that the police would not allow jungle justice and were ready to protect the public.
The Police Commissioner advised the public to celebrate the Christmas peacefully and cautioned against the use of fire works and “knock_out” during the festive season so as not to distract security personnel.
“There is no difference between the sound produced by gun and that produced by knock-out, security agents and the public cannot easily differentiate between the two,” he said.
