Warri communities vow to battle Shell over jobs

By Emma Arubi

WARRI—SEVEN amalgamated Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, host communities in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, have warned the management of the Anglo-Dutch oil giant against issuing jobs within their technical competence and financial capabilities to the general public, saying that they are now prepared to prevent the smooth operations of the company if it goes ahead with its plans.

The communities, in a final letter addressed to the Managing Director of SPDC East, Mr. Mutiu Olaniyi Sunmonu, said they have written several letters to the company without result and are very surprised that the company should go ahead to advertise the same jobs that have been assessed to be within the competence and financial capabilities of their communities’ contractors, noting that “we find it very strange, shocking and most embarrassing.”
