Starcomms gets two directors

MESSRS. Richard Gill and  Olutunde Adebayo have joined the employment of Nigeria’s only publicly quoted telecommunication company, Starcomms Plc, as directors to strengthen the operations of Starcomms and sustain its innovation drive among others.

Gill and Adebayo will work as Marketing Director and Director, Business Enterprise, respectively.
The duo’s appointments were announced by the Board of Starcomms Plc.

Gill, an engineer with an MBA, is said to be bringing his wealth of experience from several telecommunications markets in the world to bear on the fortunes of Starcomms.

Having held several senior positions in Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and South America in companies such as Verizon Communications, T-Mobile International and Digicel, he has over 20  years marketing experience in telecommunications and utilities.

The new Director, Business Enterprise, Olutunde Adebayo, has also held a range of  senior management positions  spanning over twenty years in world class organizations, including Vodafone Global Enterprise, BT Retail & Global Services, LogicaCMG, T-Mobile, British Gas and London Electricity plc.

His first experience of working in Nigeria was with MTN where he worked as a Principal Consultant for BT Telconsult setting up the enterprise business unit for MTN Nigeria. Olatunde’s new role is to manage and grow the enterprise business unit for Starcomms Plc.

He is a graduate of Political Economy with an MSc in Information Systems & Technology.

Speaking on the new appointments, Maher Qubain, Starcomms CEO, said: “Gill and Adebayo have been appointed to strengthen the operations of Starcomms so that they can add more value and help sustain our innovation drive.”

The company is believed to be leading Nigeria’s telecomm industry in providing triple-play services and has pioneered the 1xEV-DO-based mobile broadband deployment in the country and launched i-Zap which provides high speed mobile internet for Customers and businesses in Nigeria.

The CDMA technology provides greater capacity for voice and data communications than other commercial mobile technologies, allowing more subscribers to connect always. It also allows for greater security on any networks employing it.
