BENINâ€”AÂ lecturer in the University of Benin, Dr. Julius Iyasele, who was kidnapped last Sunday by unknown persons, has been released by his abductors after paying a ransom of N1.5 million.
Dr. Iyasele, a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, was set free by his abductors on Monday night.
He was said to have been kidnapped at his residence near Bendel Development and Property Authority, BDPA, Estate, Ugbowo, Benin City, and the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N20 million for his release.
It was gathered that the ransom of N20 million was not paid, but that the kidnappers did not allow Dr. Iyasele to go without collecting some amount of money.
Though unconfirmed, it was learnt from a reliable source that the ransom which the abductors collected before setting the lecturer free was about N1.5 million.
