BENIN—A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Samson Osagie, has called on all those holding the nation to ransom not to allow it gravitate towards anarchy.
Osagie spoke in an interview in Benin, weekend, against the backdrop of refusal of ailing President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to hand over the reins of power to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, “Nigeria is the only country where laws, including the supreme law of the land, the constitution, is turned on its head and given emotional interpretation rather than its ordinary meaning.
“Those holding this nation in its jaws must now allow the constitution to take its course in the prolonged absence of the president.
“Nigeria cannot wait endlessly and we cannot allow our dear country to gravitate towards avoidable anarchy simply because some people are hell bent on reading the constitution upside down,†he said.
Noting that the country could hardly witness any progress in the absence of a constitutional head, Mr. Osagie called on all Nigerians to pray fervently for the country to avert a looming constitutional crisis.
He also prayed that the almighty God grant President Yar’Adua speedy recovery.
