Warring Ebonyi communities get amnesty boost

By  Dennis Agbo

ABAKALIKI—THE President of Ebonyi Youth Assembly, Mr. Chinedu Ogar has pledged to sponsor vocational training abroad for the first ten youths of Ezza/Ezillo, who surrender their weapons to embrace the peace initiative of Ebonyi State Government to end the two years war that had ravaged the two sister communities.

Ogar gave the amnesty deal, yesterday, when he delivered a paper on youths as agents of social change at a one-day seminar organised by Ebonyi Youths Assembly in conjunction with Ezillo undergraduates.

Mr. Ogar, who also is the youth leader of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, said that the offer to train ten youths, who surrender arms abroad was born out of his organisation’s desire to allow complete and total peace return to the state.

Speaking on the imperatives of peace to human and material development: the role of youths, Mr. Ogar said that a youth is the hope and pride of the society, a leader, king, father, and the man of tomorrow. He reminded the youths of the area that war destroys their future and urged them to embrace unconditional peace.

Ogar said, “any of them who is courageous enough to surrender his arms to the police or the state government, Ebonyi Youths Assembly will sponsor the person to travel outside the country to start up something on his own. That is the only way we can stop this war. Five of them have already agreed to surrender and that is the only way we can achieve peace in Ebonyi State.

“We are in contact with some embassies like China, Malaysia and Israel. There is a technical education that the person can undergo and after being trained, the person will establish on his own with grant from  the state government,” he added.
