THE Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC)Â has said it is stepping up its training strategies to meet with the operational dynamics of the time.
The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral Ekwere Udoh Ekwere, who dropped the hint yesterday in Lagos in a chat with newsmen moments after a visit to his divisions said the present operational challenge facing the Nigerian Navy was enormous and therefore, called for a commensurate training strategy.
The NAVTRAC boss made allusion to the recent past activities of the Joint Task Force (JTF) deployed in the Niger Delta, saying most of the operational challenges were alien to naval personnel detailed to the region.
To be able to fit in properly, Rear Admiral Ekwere said the navy had to collaborate with the Amphibious Brigade for such training. He, however, commended the various training units, especially the Command Training, on the work-up training exercise which he said had improved personnel’s use of weaponry tremendously.
He said: “I have always reiterated the importance of training in a democratic dispensation, especially during peace time. The vision and indeed the task of repositioning training in the Nigerian Navy to meet with new challenges in our operational environment was carried through and climaxed during NAVTRAC Week last May.”
