A’Court: Uba’s suit divides Anambra

By Vincent Ujumadu

AWKA—The suit by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the April 14, 2007 election in Anambra State, before the Court of Appeal, Enugu, in which he is praying the court to declare that his 2007 election stands,  has divided the people of the state.

While the International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, a civil society organisation, argued that the matter was capable of generating judicial anarchy, a chieftain of the PDP in the state,  Chief Edwin Okwuosa wants the party to reflect on the contributions of Uba towards the development of the party.

The former presidential aide is seeking for an order of the court, confirming him as the duly elected Governor of Anambra State by virtue of the April 2007 election,  when the tenure of Governor Peter Obi elapses on March 17, 2010.

He had predicated his latest application on the earlier decision of the court, which had ruled that his election stands.

According to the chairman of Intersociety, Mr. Emeka Umeagbalasi, “it is very obvious that supremacy contest now exists between the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, with respect to the said subject matter. While the Supreme Court had invalidated the said governorship election, the Court of Appeal says it stands.”

    This is incredible.
The courts have ruled that the election that brought Andy Uba to power was illegal.
How can they now use the result of an illegal election to enthrone the man again?
It is like a stolen good. The thief steals a watch and gives it to Mr. A. Mr. B discovers and proves that the watch rightly belongs to him. Mr. A is claiming that since the thief has the right to give him a gift then he must hold on to the watch.
Any illegal deal is against the law and its proceeds can not be legalised. It is only in the orkija shrine that you can make a criminal agreement and expect it to be binding on law abiding people. The judge should have jailed all those who took part in the illegality.

Anambra people surprised me with their utterances, they want democracy, they want the rule of law, but when it does not favour them they cry foul. Is it not the same Court that judge that Obi should be given his term as the Governor when Andy Uba then has been sworn in as the Governnor? and the gentleman agreed, he respect the court ruling, why are the same Anambara people who hail the judgement then are now saying this man should not use his own term, this is not good legally and morally, what is good for the goose should be good for ganders. Nigeria as a Country should stand by the rule of law and not listen to be sway by what people will say. He worn the election, whether rigged or not,he was declared the winner and no Court cancelled his election what the Supreme Court said was that INEC should not have carried out another election that time, but the result was never cancelled.Judges should judge cases on their merit and not on people’s sentiments. I dont know why Nkemba want to die on this case, he should be a leader of all the Ibos and not leader to some Ibos, if he was to be respected by the Ibo race, If all Ibos respect him, so also the North, the West and the South South will respect him. He should not be in support of one Ibo candidate against another as a True leader., or whether he is also taking millions from Obi?, as it baffles me why he want to die if Obi is not allowed to go for the 2nd time. Obi can recontest after Uba’s term, that is how it should be. Andy has a fundamental human right to ask for his mandate as Obi got his against Ngige. How many election is free in Nigeria?, how many of the present Governors were really elected?and this does not just start it has always being like that from time immemorial in Nigeria, elections is always being rigged in Nigeria apart from June 12, which was clear to everybody and was the election allowed to stand? where is the winner now? Justice should prevail and we Nigerians should cultivate the habit of standing for the truth and the rule of law., and put sentiments apart. People keep on saying Uba is this Uba is that, can any Nigerian point to me a good politician as of today in Nigeria, apart from the 1st Republic, and Chris Uba is not Andy Uba, and everybody knew that Chris is even not in favour of Andy Uba.

It is a shame that in a State like Anambra these fools who were prooped up by OBJ are still running around hoping to govern the State, even when the puppeteer is out of circulation. The ambition to govern Anambra is going to consume these dollards, as they can not genuinely see their limitations. The Uba brothers need to understand that their lives, like the next guy, have no duplicate.

They need to come to the realization that they are very unpopular in Anambra, because of their deeds during OBJ. A word they say is enough for the wise.

I think it high time the NBA weild their big stick against the lawyers that are necouraging Andy Uba to be committing judicial suicide. How on earth can a lawyer advise Uba to go to Appeal court to challenge the judgment of the Supreme court. It shows that Andy Uba lack wisdom, he is an illiterate and an ignoramus. His lawyers are just manipulating him because they know that he lack intellectual sagasity and prowess to decipher what is lawfully & judicially right.

NBA need to discipline Uba’s lawyer for encouraging dudicial rascality and unhealthy manipulation that is capable of ridiculing our judicial system.

When will Uba brothers allow peace to reign in Anambra state? There should be thorough investigation about their genuine indegeneship of that state because somebody that comes from a particular town or state ought to be interested in the peace of such area and not become promoters of anarchy and trouble. Anambra is one of the states in Nigeria that have high concentration of intellectuals and highly educated people. These challatans Uba brothers should be put where they belong. It is high time they are told that having money (through questionable means) does not give them licence to behave anyhow.

  6. I really salute the courage of dr andy ubah he is a man of integrity and substance it is only people that feel outclassed by his profile and charisma that are trying to blackmail him at least he is not using propaganda like some people are doing to fight his fight he is believing in the courts to grant his prayer and so shall it be.

  7. The Uba brothers are know for nothing in Anambra State but their infamy. Chris and his brother Nnamdi ubah, alis Dr. Andy Ubah should leave us alone. We are tired of this two thugs masquarading themselves as politicians. Tell me how somebody should be running like a headless chicken going form one court to another, only because of his inordinate ambition to rule our State. Ubah brothers have a grand design to enslave the people of Anambra State. They have nothing good to offer the state, only to loot our treasury dry. The abomination committed by Chris Ubah against the State some years ago is still fresh in the minds of all. In any civilised society, this unrepentant thug should have been in jail by now, paying for his demonic acts against the people of the State. For this thug extraordinary to still be around poking his nose on our people simply means that Nigeria has become a failed State, where common criminals are made leaders of a particular political party. Shame on PDP and shame on the Ubah brothers for their evil antics. Nnamdi Ubah will not succeed in subverting the decission of the highest court in the land. He is engaging in an exercise in futility. This guy knew that he did not even win that charade of an election conducted in 2007. Not only that, he will never win any election as far as the State is concerned. The government of Yar Adua should take the Ubah brothers out of the neck of our State so that the State will enjoy peace.

The public should not be jittery on issues that are very sraightforward. Electoral cases terminates at the Appeal Court. It is the appeal court that has the final say, and not the supreme court. The Electoral law did not make the supreme court the terminal point. If the appeal court that has the final say had earlier upheld the election of Uba Andy as governor, it stands. The supreme court has no locus standi on electoral issues, and thus, its interference on election issues, would be misleading the public.
