Two commit suicide in Lagos

By Ifeanyi Okolie
DETECTIVES attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) Panti Yaba, have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of two adults who committed suicide by hanging at two different locations in Lagos.

In one of the incidents, a 45-year-old man, Joseph Olatunji who was found dangling from the ceiling in his apartment was said to have hung himself two days before neighbours found him .

However, one of his neighbours who spoke on  anonymity, told Vanguard that his co-tenant had complained about his financial status and his inability to provide his family  withbasic needs.

In another development, Abayomi Ayodele, aged 52 also took his own life by hanging, in his one room apartment in Lagos over a yet to be ascertained reason. His bloated body was said to have been found by his children last week.

According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (SP) Frank Mba, who confirmed the report, said no suicide note was found at both incidences after detectives from SCID visited the scene.

Mba added that the Command is worried over high increase in suicide. He, however, advised the public to desist from taking their own life since it will not offer solutions to their problems rather it will remain a loss to their family.
