ABUJA-THE Presidency yesterday distanced itself from claims that the authorities of Equatorial Guinea and Angola where Mr Hery Okah was arrested for gun running before his repatriation and subsequent detention in Nigeria were not properly briefed on the grant of amnesty to him and others by President Umaru Yar’Adua before his release from detention.
Fielding question from State House Correspondents on why the Federal Government has not send a delegation to the two countries on Mr Okah as promised by Nigeria, Presidential Spokesman, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, dismissed the claim, stating that a high powered delegation was actually sent to the two nations and the authorities of the countries endorsed the amnesty for Mr Okah and others.
“No, it is not true that the President has not sent a delegation to Equatorial Guinea and Angola on Henry Okah.
I am aware the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bagudu Hirse, has led a delegation to Equatorial Guinea with a special message from President Yar’Adua to President Nguema Mbasogo on Henry Okah.
