This past week, a group from the South-South political zone of Nigeria made public its endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election in 2015. It is all in the larger scheme of things of course, but not unexpectedly, various reactions, some subtle, some more blatant, have accompanied the endorsement from this group purporting to be speaking for the South-South.

Logically speaking, it is quite possible that the events around which the gospels’ narratives were woven actually did not take place or that the stories are so garbled it is impossible to separate fiction from fact.

The Military in Mali was no doubt living in the past when on March 21, 2012, it imagined that if it effected a change in its nation’s government, civilians would once again be as gullible as before to rejoice over it. I walked into the City of David parish of the Redeem-ed Christian Church of God, Lagos, for the very first time and was surp-rised to hear the choir playing the theme song from the blockbuster movie, Mission Impossible III. Don’t get me wrong; the choir was excellent. But you start to wonder if you are not actually at a pop-concert as opposed to a church.

NO doubt, the late Dr Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi, who died on Wednesday at age 95, was an accomplished medical practitioner. Although, he devoted about 89 years of his life to medicine, his six- year stint in politics appeared to have entrenched him more in the consciouness of Nigerians.

The downside of my day job is that when things get intense that make-believe world can become my reality and other than close family members and their needs (oh my kids are guaranteed to bring me down to terra firma with a bump!) very little else penetrates.
