You must have noticed the newest political speculation in town. It must have been invented in the ongoing political transition period because I don’t seem to have noticed it before. It is the act of buying nomination forms for candidates for high office. President Goodluck Jonathan was favoured with this uncommon benevolence by thousands of groups drawn from across the polity.

The current travails of investors in the Nigeria Stock Exchange, NSE, has once again convinced me that Nigerians, including those we regard as the “brightest and the best”, never learn from history. Back in November last year, writing under the title, ANOTHER CAPITAL MARKET CRISIS COMING UP, I warned my Fellow Countrymen about the crisis they now face in the NSE. Once again, I was ignored.

The CBN recently restricted direct sales of the federation’s official dollar reserves to some sectors of the economy; consequently, the importation of electronics, information technology, generators, and telecom equipment, finished products and invisible transactions will henceforth be funded with more costly dollars from the Interbank foreign Exchange market.

I was a baby Christian, basking in newborn fellowship with the Lord. I woke up one morning to discover I was singing a new song. I had never sung it before; but it was clear I had been singing it in my sleep and continued now awake. How do you sing a song you never knew before? How come you know the words?

Tragedy once again has revisited our shores and being in the UK watching the news, makes me feel saddened and despondent. Yet, again there is no decisive plan as to what will be done to rid the country of these nefarious cold blooded murderers.

Boko Haram’s latest onslaughts in Potiskum and Mubi this past week draw our attention once again to the growing strength and defiance of its terrorist operations. If anything has defined the Jonathan presidency, it has been the Boko Haram insurgency, the single most dangerous political development in Nigeria since the civil war. In a sense, Jonathan is struggling with history, and the nature of his presidential legacy.

In otherwords, when people claim they have received a miracle in one form or another, a sufficient number of critical and well-educated people of trustworthy character and good sense to occlude the possibility of deliberate deception invariably dispute such claims – and for good reasons too, because appearances do not always reflect reality. Human beings, especially in underdeveloped communities where majority of the population are poor and undereducated cling dogmatically to the teachings of Holy Scriptures concerning miracles, even when the phenomena in question are amenable to scientific explanation.

On the last Sunday of every October , the UK clock is set back by an hour. Three Sundays ago, on the 26th October, 2014, we observed this act which signifies the start of the British winter period. No surprise therefore when after this annual “set back” the cold settles in immediately. This year was a bit different though, winter did not set in as fast as it does yearly. The sun is still out and the cold is bearable with a light jacket.
