SubscribeFirst time out: (5) Sex, to me, is not worth the trouble
I was 27 years old when I first had sex, and believe me, it was due to pressure from the lady I was dating. Sex to me is not worth all the noise and trouble that comes with it. It is not as if I do not get sexually aroused or that I am impotent.
Killer midwives of Nigeria’s education
THE persistent rot in Nigeria’s education sector is nowhere about to end. If anything, the country’s education is set for more bashing as the National Union of Teachers, the umbrella body of primary and secondary school teachers in the country, gave notice of a strike that began last week.
The grandmum bug!
Hi Readers! I’m excited! I’m in love! This time around, I’ve fallen for a handsome and much younger gentle man with lovely dimples. He’s young enough to be my grand child, but he’s my man of the moment. His name is Bayo Junior or BJ. Yes, he’s Tayo’s grandson from her first daughter, Dupe. The moment I set my eyes on him, I was totally smitten.
Banks And Money Laundering (2)
The object of this column in the last two weeks has been to debunk any insinuation that Central Bank of Nigeria, the government’s agency for regulating and supervising the banking sector, and the EFCC, Nigeria’s financial crimes fighters did not know of the rot in our nation’s financial markets!
Farida still looks unconvincing
May be the fault is not hers but rather that of those who expect the EFCC Chairman (whoever he or she is) to be another Nuhu Ribadu.
The Akanu Ibiam international airport
Eastern and indeed many Middle belt international travelers have frequently demanded this upgrade for a number of reasons, chief of which is the inconvenience of always travelling to Lagos, Abuja or Kano, or even Port-Harcourt before they could board or even disembark from an international flight.
Finally, the truth about the 2.3 GHZ licence
One thing I learnt from my detour into semantics was the fact that the person who writes a lot or delivers many speeches runs the risk of being misunderstood, even by those who are well educated and also articulate.
ASUU’s strikes as a game of musical chairs (6)
As a body comprising academics, ASUU should provide intellectual leadership for other unions to follow, not the other way round. Uncritical acceptance of the hard-line posture of a union in the complex and controversial issue of strike is anathema to the spirit of free thought which academics ought to uphold, although the critical attitude native to philosophy is inconvenient for hard core unionists in ASUU.
The abuse of loyalty
FOR many years now, I have been speaking about what I described as Segmented Loyalty. I will tell you why I am calling it to service today. We are in a deplorable economic mess. Never in the history of this country have we had so much demolition, in peace time, of mountain peaks to the low level of plateaus or even valleys.
the throbbing point
The gentleman in question, Gabriel Omoh, a dyed-in-the-wool professional, scored what I would call a “world scoopâ€, and it took no less than a stalwart in the practice of journalism, and a true veteran himself, Aba Saheed to also proclaim it as such. Aba Saheed, I should add, writes for another newspaper. To stretch a congratulatory message to another publication therefore speaks of the highest standards.
Printing more money can backfire
In the days of Idi Amin, Uganda took the risk of printing new money to bail that country’s economy out of the dull-drums. The exercise backfired so catastrophically, it has taken Museveni over two decades to right the disastrous consequences.
Don’t borrow money to look flashy
There is no problem with that. But the question is, does everyone earn what a Hollywood star earns? Really when a person has to borrow money to look good, it becomes a problem. For us, looking good starts with the house we live in, the car we drive, the clubs we go to, the people we hang out with, the shoes we wear and the whole works. Think about it.
The Diasporan Experience
I have always believed in the unique brand that is the Vanguard newspaper-its niche which it has kept since its inception and the camaraderie and bond of fraternity that exists among the numerous young men and women- many of whom are my professional peers-such as the hardworking Editor-Maideno Bayagbon that have toiled in the vineyard of this publication, making it in the process a must read newspaper in Nigeria.
There is no bad peace
Today, we dedicate our column, POSITIVE LETTERS, to a very gerrmane communication penned by the now renowned Tompolo to President Umaru Yaradua. Shalom
Idah Peterside on Sunday’s match!
We’ll be there. The players and coaches are more concerned than everybody. We are all involved in this. We know what the expectations are. We know the responsibility that we are saddled with.
