Most times, what is said is less important than how it is said. This past week, the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has been busy writing its own testimonials. We have a copy of the welcome address which the Senate President delivered to his colleagues on their return from recess.

While Nigeria’s crotch bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, continues to hallucinate in faraway USA that Osama bin Ladin is still alive, the rest of Nigeria remains trapped by the not-too-different disease, caused by fear, that seeks to place Boko Haram, the murderous fringe group that engages in the deadly but cowardly game of bomb throwing- we do, by our act of spreading foolish urban myths, become captive worshippers in the temple of lies built by Boko Haram. And this boko nonsense just needs to stop!

ON Sunday September 11, 2011, the United States of America, and indeed, the world, marked the 10th anniversary of the dastardly terrorist attacks by Al Qaeda on New York City and Washington DC in 2001.

Last week I got a query from my boss Onochie Anibeze. He was not happy that I did not write. He sent me a text that had to do with me disappointing my readers, those who bought the paper on Monday expecting to read me, only to be disappointed.

“Ghost Wars” is the title of a book by Steve Coll, narrating how America, through the CIA, created its current most formidable enemy, Al Qaeda, in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Media correspondents and the reading public often pose questions on the economy to this column. My responses to two of such inquiries will form the content of today’s piece.

HI Readers! Hurrah! At last I’m on vacation, and I’m penning these lines outside the country. My place in Lagos is virtually empty as nanny has gone to her village in Togo for a week. I had asked myself intuitively what else was there to write about the ethno-religious- bloody-letting on Jos (Plateau) that had not been written before. Or that I have not written about before now!? Is it the virtually ‘do-nothing-say-nothing’ attitude of the clueless, near-complicit Jonathan administration on the Jos massacres, or is it the notorious failure, usually, of our ‘un-intelligent’-or maybe ‘over-intelligent’- ‘Intelligence’ organisations; or better still the subtle, guile-and sometimes barefaced complot- of our compromised kind of journalism practice?

Ten years ago, a single cataclysmic event altered the way we viewed the world. On September 11, 2001, the world watched in horror as planes struck the World Trade Centre twin towers in New York . It seems so unreal that anyone in their right mind could not have thought it could happen, least of all, not in America . But it did and it unleashed even more tragedy in the number of lives lost that day in the weeks, months and years that followed . Its resonance felt the world over.

Sir Isaac Newton is easily regarded as one of the greatest minds in mathematics/physics. To him is credited the 3 laws of motion; the 1st one, also known as the law of Inertia is attributed to an equally great mind Galileo. Coincidentally Isaac Newton was born the same year Galileo died; a good argument that both men demonstrated the beauty of motion by passing the baton, one to the other in their exemplary existence.

As individuals we live in a social world which makes sense to us, and we rely on our ideas through consensus with those around us. The worldviews we create are existential maps which fulfil their psychological functions by orienting us properly in the world.

Last week, I taught on the fundamentals of supernatural breakthroughs. This week, I will teach on how to prove the validity of divine guidance.

Mr President, just in case your administration proves to be forgetful of recent history, let me remind you of something I wrote last March, on mindless violence, and what followed. Another anniversary is round the corner- just 13 days away as a matter of fact.
