Threats don’t win elections; good campaigns do
AS we begin the countdown to the February 2015 elections, it is necessary to remind ourselves that these elections are merely the process of choosing the people who will lead us for the next four years. Elections are, therefore, not ends in themselves but means to ends.
Wanted: A president for new Nigeria (1)
IT is strange that a section of the Nigerian political class cannot find in their ranks a suitably qualified, intelligent and competent Nigerian to give their presidential ticket to confront President Goodluck Jonathan at the polls in the next nine days. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has a galaxy of stars in all fields of endeavour in their party from all parts of the country. The APC is no longer just a gang-up of Arewa North and Bola Tinubu’s followers from the South West.
For the love of Nigeria
ON Valentine’s day—the ultimate celebration of love—couples profess love for each other. This time and as it should be, our love will go beyond individual considerations and relationships, to spur thoughts of the greatest love of all, love of country. I dream of Nigerians waving our flag like Americans wave theirs at the drop of a hat. Outside most American homes one is sure to see the national flag and reference to the state’s official seal.
Did I hear Buhari does not want to debate Jonathan?
These are political times and like in a war the first casualty is truth. There have, in the last few days and the many weeks leading to the February 14 presidential election, been a whole lot of untruths being peddled out there as the Gospel, and that too in the name of God. Not even so-called men and women of God who have become more partisan than the politicians they are ranged behind are exempt.
