Deputy Chairman, Finance Committee of the Presidential Campaign Organization, Dr. Ngozi Olejeme on Wednesday urged Nigerians to judge President Goodluck Jonathan by his record of performance.

When president Jonathan chickened out of the scheduled presidential debates in 2011 and opted for a literal monologue rather than engage Buhari and Ribadu , he played into the hands of the opposition . Often derided as inarticulate and diffident, he didn’t help himself by opting out of that debate.

I’ve spoken to quite a few PDP people since the election was postponed; and most of them have told me a) that they support the postponement ONLY because it will provide INEC and our armed forces with more time in which to solve logistical and security problems, b) that the PDP has provided Nigeria with top-class governance in recent years, c) that they don’t regard Buhari as a force to be reckoned with, and d) that they’re 100% sure that Jonathan would have won by a substantial margin if the February 14 election had gone ahead.

The last postponement by INEC Chairman of elections scheduled for 14th and 28th February 2015 is not the first one under the present Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headed by Professor Jega. The first one under his watch happened in 2011. The postponement announced on 7th February seems to be divinely inspired and should be appreciated by all Nigerians who might have been saved the embarrassment of the century.

LET’S start by congratulating the two major political parties – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), especially the latter, in the matured and nationalistic way they absorbed the shift of election date from February 14th/28th to March 28th/April 11th 2015. It would have complicated matters if the APC had made good the threat by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, to “take to the streets”. It would have served no useful purpose.
