Nigeria has a way of making  special occasions ordinary.  Graduates of the  Nigerian Law School were called to the bar a few days ago. The venue was the International Conference Center Abuja.  Invited guests  lined up under a bitter sun. At some point  the queue  was two kilometer long.  The  motor traffic around the center  was utter chaos. The elderly and the young, parents and friends, languished in  hopeless queue and questioned the point of attending. Disappointment was visible on all faces. There was no one to minister happiness.

The Eiffel Tower was illuminated in blue and green to greet the One Planet Summit in Paris, France, last Tuesday as the world’s political leaders and representatives of key international organizations met to discuss global climate change. When the G20 met in last June in Hamburg, Germany, French President, Emmanuel Macron offered to host the summit on climate change on December 12, 2017.

That there has been more than a fair amount of drama around the recently concluded convention of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, ought not to be a surprise to anyone.

THE world is full of contradictions and contrasts. While some work for world peace, others work to wreck world peace. In no other two world figures are these more pronounced than in American President, Donald Trump and Pope Francis. While one is a ruthless politician and worldly businessman with a lot of store in material possessions, the other is a spiritual father with a lot of store in spiritual possessions.

One of the stars of this toxic drama is Akin Fakorede, the increasingly famous SARS boss in Rivers State. Fakorede has fans who want him to stay put and detractors who are furiously demanding his dismissal and prosecution.
