The basic and essential attribute of a Muslim marriage is faith which nurtures love and breeds persevearance. Since Islam is a way of life and not just a religion confined to daily worship, faith about the omniscient God, about how He direct our affairs becomes an integral part of a Muslim’s life. The frame of reference shared by the couple eases communication and sharing of values which is not possible in an interfaith marriage.

A momentous event like the begining of Hijrah 1435, affords us the opportunity to attempt to track the passage of years again. How did it begin, and what was in place before itd advent? The Gregorian calendar derives its count from the olden days Before Christ, BC, Christ Era, CE and After Death, AD. All these recorded the number of years from the birth of the Noble Messenger of Allah, Isa ibn Maryam (a.s.) otherwise known as Jesus Christ. But Almighty Allah caused a change in the counting of passage of years with the advent of Islam and the revelation of Qur’an using the Arab nation.

We thank almighty Allah for sparing our lives to witness the great acts of worship in Islam such as Hajj, Umrah, Day of Arafah (for those on Hajj 2013), Edul-Adha, Al-Udhiyyah, Ayyamut Tashriq, etc. It is very important to understand the fact that the aforementioned acts of Ibadah and many others emanated from Prophet Ibrahim (a.s) and his family.

The Nigerian’s attitude towards wealth is quite negative. In fact, wealth, security and preservation of life are at the dictates of Allah. Even the Bible also attests to this. Those that use their wealth to help the poor will be blessed further while those that abuse and oppress people with their wealth will have their natural gifts withdrawn from them. Every Muslim should know this. That is why Allah says every mankind whether rich or poor, young or old, priviledged or underpriviledged are the same before Allah except those who distinguish themselves with piety.
