A COUPLE of weeks ago, a group of Nigerian public commentators, intellectuals, activists and writers wrote an open letter in which they expressed – to President Muhammadu Buhari – deep concern over “what appears to be an increase in harassment by security services of journalists going about their work.”

IT had been a hard choice; Africa electing a new chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) to run the continental body. The option had been forced on her after the chairperson, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the former liberation fighter from South Africa resisted pressures to stand for a second term; opting to contest the Presidential elections in her country.

LOOK at the irony of “change”, which took effect in America on January 20th 2017, compared with what happened in Nigeria on May 29th 2015. Unlike Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, a former military Head of State, the newbie United States President, Donald Trump, has never occupied any governmental post before now.

FROM the lessons of Social Psychology, it is clear that nothing should be written-off as totally wrong because even a dead clock is correct twice everyday. All those who hate war with passion must wait till they see how war reconstruction efforts turned Hiroshima from a ghetto to an ultra-modern city after it was reduced to rubbles by the bombs of the Allied Forces in Word War II.

IN describing the Muhammadu Buhari administration as dumb I do not wish now to be understood as referring to what many commentators increasingly call the administration’s or, in fact, the president’s cluelessness (Is it not amazing that this administration has so quickly frittered away its goodwill in less than two years, to the extent that it’s now being described in the same unflattering register as the Goodluck Jonathan administration?)
