BURUTU — Prominent Gbaramatu philanthropists and brothers, Chief Engineer Matthew Tonlagha and Engineer Michael Tonlagha, have rehabilitated and fully equipped the once-dilapidated Oboro Primary Healthcare Centre in the Oboro community of Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State.

The unveiling and inauguration of the renovated facility on Friday drew notable personalities from the business and political spheres, who praised the Tonlagha Dynasty for their sustained commitment to humanitarian service in riverine communities.

In his opening address, Chairman of the occasion, Chief Adowei Binebai, described the project as a divine response to the prayers of the Oboro people. He commended the Tonlagha brothers for their swift intervention and also lauded the community chairman, Mr. Tarebi Sele-ebi, for his perseverance in ensuring the project became a reality.

Speaking at the event, Engineer Michael Tonlagha said his brother, Chief (Engr.) Matthew Tonlagha, firmly believes that the value of a single human life far outweighs any material wealth.

“By the grace of God, this project was completed within ten months. All the medical equipment in this facility was generously donated by my brother’s wife,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of hard work, diligence, trust, and unwavering faith in God, noting that these virtues are key to achieving personal and communal success. He also urged the community to take proper ownership and make effective use of the healthcare facility.

Former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi, praised the Tonlagha Dynasty for their extensive philanthropic activities across the Niger Delta. He used the occasion to celebrate Chief (Engr.) Matthew Tonlagha on his 50th birthday anniversary, wishing him continued good health, prosperity, and greater accomplishments.

Ebebi also commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his developmental strides, noting that the administration’s initiatives are having visible positive impacts on the lives of residents across the state.

“I also commend the Governor for his thoughtful cabinet appointments, particularly the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, popularly known as Ability, whose competence and dedication to service are evident,” he said, adding that the enabling environment created by the state government has encouraged development.

The Delta State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, conveyed the appreciation of Governor Oborevwori to the Tonlagha Dynasty, describing their intervention as a laudable contribution to healthcare delivery in the Niger Delta.

He, however, charged the Burutu Local Government Council to take responsibility for the effective operation and maintenance of the facility.

“On behalf of the Delta State Government, I commend the Tonlagha Dynasty for renovating and equipping the Oboro Primary Healthcare Centre. This is a remarkable achievement that reflects genuine commitment to human development and community wellbeing,” Angele stated.

The highlight of the event was the formal inauguration of the renovated healthcare centre, which formed part of activities marking the 50th birthday celebration of Chief (Engr.) Matthew Tonlagha in the riverine Oboro community.
