THE year 2013 was quite eventful with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, making a mark with a strike that lasted six months. That was perhaps the longest strike in the history of the labour movement in Nigeria.

LAGOS — As academic activities resumed at the University of Lagos, yesterday, the institution’s branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has promised to make sacrifices to make up for lost time.

The saying goes: “Give me a child until he is seven, and I will give you the man”, the memo obviously got lost in transit prior to getting to Nigeria. If we cannot mould and prepare our young for the future then how can we then prepare them for adulthood or mould them into useful and productive citizens?

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has suspended its over 5months strike.
