It was the year Kingsley Osadolor, a product of the department, emerged the best graduating student in the university, with a cumulative score of 3.84 out of a possible 4.0. At the convocation, he had given a valedictory speech said to be the best in the history of the university. Dr. Pat Utomi, another alumnus of the department, had just served as Special Assistant to President Shagari.
